What is powder coating and what do you need for powder coat

Powder painting describes the finishing of surfaces with powder coating paint, which is applied to the metal base using electrostatic charging and then melted and hardened in an oven. You will need a powder gun, compressor, spray booth, baking oven, a suitable place of work and powder coating colors. Accessories such as paint hooks, heat-resistant adhesive tapes and silicone plugs also make your project easier.

Usage on the following metal surfaces

The process is suitable for coating metals such as steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, iron, cast iron, copper, brass, lead, sheet metal, as well as for heat-resistant surfaces such as glass and ceramics.

Surface pretreatment

The surface to be coated must be absolutely dry, clean and free from oxidation, scale, oil, grease, dust or release agent residues. Only with a thorough and careful preparation can a high-quality and long-lasting coating be achieved, and the formation of craters, blisters, flaking and poor adhesion be avoided. Inform yourself in detail about the stripping and cleaning, before you start with powder coating.

Information on powder coating wheel rims

According to TÜV Süd/DEKRA guidelines, an operating permit for road traffic for powder coated rims can only be obtained through the refinement of original, undamaged rims and a gentle paint stripping method (esp. for aluminium rims). The processing of damages and optical defects must be carried out by a specialist.
